If there is one thing to know about Heath Beam, it’s his innate resilience and creativity, the ability to pick up the pieces and make something better. “My personal life journey has had extreme ups and downs,” he confesses, “but it has allowed me to relate to the fears and aspirations of the people I’m fortunate to help.”
For those who know him as a passionate and engaged client advocate, it’s hard to believe that Heath’s first exposure to financial services was almost against his will, working at his mother’s insurance agency in a tiny rural southern town in the south. “I had few employment options and the last thing I wanted to do was work there,” he says, laughing.
A chance encounter led to an opportunity to head up a property and casualty firm in Gulfport, Mississippi. By the time he was 22 years old, Heath was excited to build his own business, and to expand beyond insurance. In 2001 he joined a large national financial company, where he envisioned building out a full service offering, including fee-based consulting and capital management.
He spent several years building a successful practice on the Gulf Coast, when Hurricane Katrina hit in August 2005, entirely wiping out his home and livelihood – and the lives of all of his clients. Having lost everything, except the clothes he was wearing that day, Heath moved to Charleston, South Carolina in 2006 to start all over again.
In 2016, Heath left to launch Singular Private Wealth, P.C., in order to design a client experience that he believed only a boutique firm could offer. “Clients deserve leadership, great service, competency, transparency, and most of all, real caring,” Heath sums up. Through a process he calls Authentic Wealth Management, he hopes to deliver his vision of a better way to manage one’s personal finances.
“My life has been a process of re-invention,” he adds. “I want to destroy the negative perceptions of our industry, to do my work in a way that is special and meaningful – without leaving the client wondering if they were simply sold something.”
Heath is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional, and holds the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designations.
